Creating a Future Ready Business Through AI - A presentation by Ralph Haupter, President, Microsoft Asia on 16th April 2019 to Chamber guests

In 1950, British computer pioneer Alan Turing published his seminal paper on the growing potential of early computing – “Computing Machinery & Intelligence” - which first posed the question, “Can Machines Think?.” And, with that, the modern concept of Artificial Intelligence was born.

It has taken since then, a period of almost 70 years, for the three core building blocks of AI - Algorithms , Big Data and Computing power (A-B-C) - to become broadly available and accessible, enabling it to move from far-fetched science-fiction concept to an increasingly pervasive reality across many areas of business, government and society. Looking ahead, AI is set to become the single most important technological breakthrough to occur in our lifetime; one that will have a profound and far-reaching effect on every individual and organisation across the world, driving increased efficiency, enhanced productivity and accelerating the innovation cycle. At the same time, AI will also bring with it some significant ethical and societal challenges that will need to be addressed.

In a Leaders in Business Lunch event on 16th April 2019, Ralph Haupter, President of Microsoft Asia, presented the key opportunities and challenges the dawn of the AI-era offers for business and society, the new skills that will be required to be successful, practical steps organisations can take to realise AI’s potential and some examples of successful AI adoption from across the Asia region.
