#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 1 November 2024
Happy Diwali to all of our friends celebrating the festival of lights. Here is my #FridayFive from another excellent week across the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham).
1. BritCham Museum – we launched our online museum, showcasing our 70 years of heritage in supporting business and trade between UK and Singapore. We are looking for YOUR business story to share your favourite moment with the Chamber on a LinkedIn or Instagram post. A photo and caption are encouraged. #MyBritChamStory will follow in the comments below! Here is a link to the online museum: https://70.britcham.org.sg 🖼 🎂
2. Ministry of Manpower engagements – Lucy and I attended a lunch with the MoM on Wednesday together with a number of other TACs, and today we hosted our Minister for Manpower, Dr Tan See Leng in a member dialogue following the release of our Business Sentiment Survey. Our engagement with MoM is a special one, and a relationship that we know benefits our #British business community. Thank you to all of the MoM team for their continued engagement with the Chamber 💼👩💻
3. UK Midlands – Innovation! – It was great to catch up with Alex Favier, Global Campaign Director - Invest in UK University R&D Midlands as we round up a week of the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) thanks Daisy for supporting us too. The Chamber acts as an important channel for UK innovation exploring opportunities in Singapore and Southeast Asia, as we look to further support the amazing innovation that the UK and UK Universities have to offer. More to follow! 🏫 💹
4. Member meetings – it was great to meet with Oli Beavon MD of ITOPF as we talked about engagement with the Chamber, and Revolut’s Daniel Keki and Matthew Acton Davis who was over from the UK. ⛴️ 🏦
5. #London visit – last week in London I had the pleasure of catching up with some brilliant people to keep the Chamber’s UK links as strong as ever. It was great to meet PwC Partner Suwei Jiang 姜甦唯, reconnect with Søren Nikolajsen from NatWest Group as we talked trade, Damian Adams, Jack Dainty from DBT, Kara Owen, Ian McKendrick and William Tierney, and thanks to all of those who had calls with me whilst I was back for a few weeks. 🇬🇧 🇸🇬
Lastly, the team hosted the UK The Law Society and Louise, Emma and Natassia attended Singapore International Cyber Week - Conference season is well and truly on! Amazing buzz all round, and we were also at Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). Great to see such a strong UK presence and learn about some of the amazing British capabilities entering the Singapore market.
Also, a huge thank you to the amazing crew of Singapore Airlines (2024 Skytrax best Asian Airline!) who flew me back extremely comfortably which gave me the opportunity to catch up on some project work and thinking time before hitting the ground running.
That’s it for this week, catch up soon and see you at or around the Singapore FinTech Festival!
