#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 17 May 2024

I love a busy week! Here’s my #FridayFive where we have also seen the announcement of Lawrence Wong inaugurated as the 4th Prime Minister of #Singapore, and the announcement the #UK has ratified the #CPTPP.

1.      Ministry of Manpower (SG) and Ministry of Justice UK – Our President-Elect, Haslam Preeston and I attended the Ministry of Manpower’s Work Plan Seminar 2024, showcasing key achievements over the year, but a look forward at what is coming up. We continue to have a great dialogue with the Ministry and it was good to see Minister Tan See Leng and PS Chee Khern Ng. At the same time, President Damian Adams attended a meeting with Minister Mike Freer on supporting UK legal services companies in Singapore, as we look to set up a #Legal Services Working Group – stay posted! 👩‍🏭 ⚖

2.      Lloyds Lab & Digital Trade – We always get a brilliantly warm welcome from Emma Loynes and the team at Lloyd's of London as we look at building something really exciting around tech. At the same time, Louise is in Bangkok further promoting our Digital Supply Chain pilot programme with Zak Lawton, Chris Bush and Andrew McKeown. Great to see our efforts in trade building well. 👩‍💻 🚢

3.      Hospitality and F&B Committee Launch – our brilliant Caitrin Moh pioneered and held the first meeting to convene members in the #hospitality and F&B space. With so much engagement, we want to further support those in the network and this was a missing gap. Thank you to all those who attended and once again, great to see the Chamber going from strength to strength. 🏨 🍸

4.      Engaging the Future Generation – the Chamber welcomed a delegation hosted by Events and Training at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) to the office discussing how professional institutions can support the next generation of #talent. The British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) will be setting up a Professional Body working group to see how we can further support engagement across our excellent UK institutions. Thanks to Kogi Oberoi , Andy Bell and Steve O'Connor 🌱 📈

5.      #Community Matters – the frequent and excellent engagement of the British community convened this week again sharing our collective support for Team UK in Singapore. The initiative led by Her Excellency Kara Owen has been a hugely powerful support group for those representing the community here. 👁️‍🗨️ 📢

And lastly, if I can squeeze it in, we’ve welcomed new members (welcome to all!) and a huge thanks to the awesome team at Cushman & Wakefield who hosted me and the team for drinks and to meet their staff. Thanks James Young and Bernard Lim MRICS for such a warm welcome.

See you next week!
