#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 21 February 2025
Firstly, a huge thank you to the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) Team (you know who you are!) the Board, and friends who have been simply amazing at the back end of last year and since Christmas. Thank you also for the patience of our members too whilst it’s taken me a little longer than anticipated to get back to Singapore. So, here’s my first #FridayFive of 2025, a hugely busy week setting up to be another cracking year.
1. Events Update: Really pleased to welcome Lydia Rigby who has started at the Chamber as our Head of Events. We wished Ashni a fond farewell. We have some amazing events coming up including our IWD lunch, Annual Economic Briefing and Breakfast Insights Series. Check out the website for more details. 🤩👋
2. Valued partnerships: We truly value our relationships in Singapore, and were pleased to meet with the Ministry of Manpower, in a week where we were also saw the #Singapore #budget announcement. We also met with Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB)'s Madeleine Lim as we compared notes on our activities to support companies in the #UK and Singapore. 🙌 🤝
3. Export Support: Louise and the team supported a delegation of #Welsh businesses here. This week has consumed a number of my braincells as we plan our trade services activities for the year. For businesses looking to explore this market, please do reach out to me and Louise!🏴👩💼
4. New Connections: It was such a delight to welcome Deputy High Commissioner Lucy Hughes to the Chamber office as we talked about our activities to support UK business and the community. Thank you Lucy for coming out this way late on a Friday afternoon! 🇬🇧 🇸🇬
5. Trade: We are waiting for the UK’s industrial strategy, but really pleased to welcome Gary Wong 黄杰民 and Jiahui Quek from the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) to talk about areas of collaboration. Lucy Haydon also met Enterprise Singapore and Singapore Business Federation in a week of alignment and opportunity. 🗣️ 🌏
Full week, as we also had an ExCo, and some of our members attended the British Council Alumni Awards Dinner. For those of you supporting the British Theatre Playhouse - Bringing to the world the best in British Entertainment, enjoy the Beatles weekend!
