#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 30 August 2024
What a week to report on for my #FridayFive:
1. 70th Anniversary – I am always bowled over by our business community. The people make it, and in celebrating 70 years of the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) we had a brilliant evening. What a buzz and a way to say Happy Birthday! We were delighted to welcome Minister Indranee Rajah as our Guest of Honour, and huge thanks to His Excellency Nikesh Mehta for opening his residence for our celebrations. Delighted to also have HMTC Martin Kent join us, and former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne. Our 70th Anniversary partners make nights like last night happen. Thank you to:
1HQ Brand Agency
8build
bp
BT Group
Dulwich College (Singapore)
Hawksford
NatWest Group
Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL)
Talon
Tanglin Trust School
A brilliant night and a great way to celebrate with our member companies. 🤝 🍾
2. Marlborough College Malaysia – education and skills is one of the Chambers five pillars, and delighted to welcome Simon Burbury Master of Marlborough College Malaysia to the office. With discussions around a Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), members like Simon help to support companies and families across our network. 🌏 🎓
3. Board Meeting – Haslam Preeston, hosted the first Board meeting since assuming the role of President of the Chamber. We have a brilliant board, who support me and the team, but truly represent our member companies and the business community. Thank you to Simon Middlebrough Suzy Goulding Christina Mason Nick Magnus MBE Damian Adams Andrew Clark Prakash Pinto Michael Buchanan Dr. Michael Yap Penny Murphy Andy Marr Lorena Paglia Emma Loynes Rodney Kinchington Gavin Sung 宋志鴻 David Haigh Steve Firstbrook Lissy Vadakel 💼 📌
4. British Trade – Haslam and myself continued to engage with Singapore, discussing UK/Singapore business links, priority sectors and opportunities for business. We had a brilliant meeting with Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), further strengthening our relationship. 📈 🛫
5. Last but definitely not least, a huge thank you to Rhiannon Harries and Nikesh Mehta for their time this week as we talked about the Chamber and updated on what is happening this year and our future plans. Thank you both for your time and support. 💙 👍
Next week, we launch our awesome #Sustainability Dialogue – we have such a brilliant line up, come and join us, link in the comments below.
Thank you so much to the awesome team at the Chamber 👏
Great to connect with so many people this week, and see you next week.
