Meet Coventry Enterprises: Finalists for UK Impact in Singapore in our Annual Business Awards
What's made them Finalists
Fostering strong bilateral ties through the collaborative sharing of knowledge and technologies, Coventry Enterprises Singapore, a 100% subsidiary of Coventry University Enterprises Ltd, seeks to continue their efforts with strengthening UK-Singapore ties by building upon common values and shared interests.
Sharing of Knowledge and Technology
With a presence in the Asian market since 2007, Coventry University Enterprises Ltd (CUE) has been partnering with XVR Simulation, an incident command training software under the parent organisation, LearnPro Group. Coventry Enterprises Singapore Pte Ltd (CES), a 100% subsidiary of CUE, was established as a Regional Support Centre, designing, delivering, operating and maintaining incident command virtual systems in Asia. With Singapore as their main market, they serve two main clients, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), and the Home Team Academy (HTA) - both which fall under the branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The SCDF is a uniformed organisation whose main role is to provide firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services; mitigating hazardous materials incidents, as well as formulate, implement, and enforce regulations on fire safety and civil defence shelter matters. In 2015, CUE clinched the project tender to build the Advanced Command Training System (ACTS2) for SCDF. Conceptualised to improve SCDF frontline commanders during incident command and control, the system allows for the simulation of different types of emergency incidents for SCDF personnel to train in.
Singapore Home Team Academy (HTA) is the training institute for various organisations under the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs including the Singapore Police Force, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Central Narcotics Bureau, Singapore Prison Service, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Internal Security Department, and other agencies. Taking the lead to utilise innovative and digital training methods for the Home Team Officers, HTA awarded CUE a tender in 2018, to develop a state-of-the-art Home Team Simulation System (HTS2) for HTA. This system was created to enable Home Team officers to train in realistic scenarios which are highly difficult to replicate in reality, while in a safe and controlled environment.
Coventry Enterprises Singapore's team of well-trained technical specialists have been providing unparalleled operational support to both the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Home Team Academy (HTA), ensuring that both simulations systems are functioning smoothly during training exercises and visits to the training centres from both local and international guests in the safety and security industry. Looking upon the success in the implementation of both training systems, visitors seek to understand the training usages and methodologies, bringing back the knowledge to improve their own trainings.
Building Connections Through Shared Values
In 2020, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Civil Defence Force to further their existing academic relationship by exchanging scholarly publications and information, exchanging faculty, staff and graduate students, developing collaborative teaching programmes, allowing discussion of academic and administrative developments in education and the pursuit of consulting and project opportunities. More recently, Special Interest Working Groups (SIWG) were established to formulate and drive projects and collaboration in areas of common interest with groups staffed by relevant experts from SCDF and Coventry University.
On 18 July 2023, Coventry University signed an MOU with Home Team Academy to collaborate in a more structured manner, leveraging their respective strengths, common interests, industry expertise, and resources, to advance their strategic goals and objectives, focusing on areas such as various domain areas such as leadership, crisis and emergency management, virtual simulation training, law enforcement, public safety and security, and training methodology. The representative of Coventry University was Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor, and CEO of Coventry University Group. Professor John Latham CBE was also nominated into Home Team Academy’s advisory panel, being the only representative from the UK in HTA’s advisory panel.
The signing of these MOU's marked an important milestone between Coventry University, SCDF and HTA, symbolising the shared commitment to collaborate, innovate and promote excellence in areas of academic education and training. Embarking on a transformative journey towards academic excellence and mutual growth, this helps strengthen the relationship between Singapore and the UK, opening doors for more collaborative opportunities.
