Singapore TMT - Smart Nation Singapore Initiative Webinar
Join us for this event on the Southeast Asian Technology sector where we’ll be discussing the opportunities and support avail able through Singapore’s Smart
Nation Singapore initiative.
ASEAN is home to 650 million individuals, including a growing middle class and a young and digitally savvy population. At the end of 2022, it was forecast that there were 460 million internet users (100 million of which have come online in the past three years) in Singapore, Malaysia, In donesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines more than the US. Factors such as a strong payments framework, logistics, funding, consumer trust, and a high internet penetration rate has helped foster unprecedented growth.
From an investment perspective, venture capitalists (VCs) are still focused on the region with an estimated $15 billion in ‘dry powder’ with a key focus on early
stage investments. Late stage investments are on a downtrend due to global macroeconomic headwinds impacting capital markets and IPO prospects.
Southeast Asia’s Technology sector continues to provide boundless opportunities. The digital economy in ASEAN is expected to grow twice as fast as GDP in member states and could reach $1 trillion by 2030. Singapore serves as the springboard to ASEAN and is at the heart of the technological growth being witnessed. Singapore is a technologically mature market but one that is interesting and looking for new opportunities for partne rship and growth. Via the Smart Nation Singapore initiative, Singapore is seeking to transform using technology.
The Singapore Smart Nation initiative was introduced with the aim of increasing productivity and improving the lives of Singa
por eans and is broken down into
three pillars:
Digital government - investing in infrastructure and creating shared open platforms for businesses and citizens to learn and develop. A key enable r o f the
Smart Nation initiative that touches urban living, transport, education, finance, and health.
Digital economy - spur businesses to invest in technology and talent to encourage growth beyond Singapore and to keep up with rapid changes due to
digitisation.
Digital society - providing opportunities for individuals to cultivate their talents and have access to the latest digital technologies.
