WATCH NOW ON DEMAND: A UK Outlook - UK Budget Review
While it has been exactly 12 months to date since Rishi Sunak delivered his first Budget as Chancellor of the Exchequer, the challenges faced by the UK Government's historic financial response to the Covid-19 pandemic are of course significant. Borrowing is at an all time high and action will be needed to work the debt down. That will come partly through hoped-for economic growth but also, one suspects, from the tax system.
Speculation abounds of a one-off wealth tax on UK residents, of an overhaul of the Inheritance Tax system and Capital Gains Tax systems and of how the Government might continue to raise money from pensions, property and of course large corporates.
Though all Budgets are important, this one might just define the tax system for years to come.
