#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 10 May 2024
Brilliant week of engagement, and hard to condense, but here is my #FridayFive.
1. AGM and Networking – with thanks to Alistair Scott and JLR who sponsored the evening, we held our AGM at the beautiful Eden Hall, showcasing EVERYTHING that we’ve done in 2023. We recognised the amazing engagement of our President Damian Adams, and took the opportunity to say “thank you and farewell” to our Patron and British High Commissioner to Singapore, Kara Owen via series of member video messages. It was great to host businesses across our network who support me and the team in our activities running the Chamber. Welcome to our elected board members and President-Elect, Haslam Preeston - I really look forward to shaping 2024-2025 together 🏆 🗣
2. Energy and Utilities Committee and Singapore Gov engagement – our E&U Committee and members, together with Enterprise Singapore and the Energy Market Authority (EMA) on addressing the Energy Trilemma, Decarbonisation and Financial Solutions. Great engagement and sharing, and linking back to the Green Economy Framework. 💡♻
3. An integrated social and sustainable future – the brilliant Lisa Ferraton from Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Singapore led a super session bringing Chambers together to share all of our sustainability agendas and opportunities to engage with the local #Singapore community. A brilliant starting point, and wide commitment to engage with the CDCs. 👯 🌳
4. Chamber – UK Gov Relationships – you’ll no doubt know that we share a brilliant relationship with the UK in Singapore. Every week I catch up with Steve Firstbrook from Department for Business and Trade to “catch” what we’re both collectively working on for #British #business. This week, it was also nice to welcome Rhiannon Harries, Deputy Trade Commissioner for SEA, and say farewell to Sam Myers who is leaving Singapore back to the UK. Team UK is as strong as ever here, so please do reach out to me and the team if there is anything you need to support your business. It was also great to meet up with Mike Collins and Melanie Go re #infrastructure opportunities. 🛤 👋
5. UK visitors in Singapore – we met with Catriona Lindsey-Renton and welcomed Zertasha Malik and Richard Lomas from Bank of England discussing UK-Singapore trade and held a roundtable with Simon Fell MP, the UK Prime Minister’s Anti-Fraud Champion who was also joined by five members of the UK’s Home Affairs Select Committee. Great to connect the private sector with public sector activities. Thanks to Daisy R. for steering the conversation with banks, tech, consultants and government around online fraud, supporting customers and businesses, and discussing the UK strategy. 🏦 💳
Here’s to another superb week, and great to have seen so many of you at our AGM, and a last thanks to Ir Dr Anne Kerr for keeping in contact from the The British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong who came to visit.
Have a great weekend and see you next time!
