#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 15 April 2025

Wow! Just gone past 10,000+ followers, and it didn’t load on Friday, but here’s a special #FridayFive from 11th April to celebrate the milestone and thank you to all who follow me:

1. In support of education: University of London visited the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) who have 56,000 strong alumni in Singapore. Great to see Bill Abraham and Andrew Williams and we look forward to supporting their programmes in Singapore.

2.  Opening a new campus: I was delighted to support the PSB Academy and Coventry University launch their partnership and MOU in Singapore, a brilliant demonstration of the UK-SG #education links. With so many students building skills for the future, this is a great collaboration that supports the future workforce.

3.  On the economy: We held our annual economic briefing and what a session with expert panellists Elizabeth Horsman (UK in Singapore), Taimur Baig (DBS Bank), Allen Ng (ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office), and HUGE thanks to Manisha Tank for for moderating. Our panel discussed the balance of risks in markets and across industries, particularly in goods and exposure to the US market and tariffs . We also spoke about the likelihood for increased regional and bilateral country dialogues on trade, and opportunities for the service sector and product diversification.

4.  On Global Leadership: Thank you to Dr. Michael Yap for inviting me to a brilliant Future of Global Leadership programme with the International Leadership Association. I had a wonderful table with Chong Jin (CJ) Li 李宗仁, Roy Ling, Jim Varghese, AM, Nele Cornelis, who’s insights I certainly enjoyed.

5.  One big 70th Anniversary: Ministry of Manpower celebrated 70 years at a wonderful event where they launched their new logo. The Chamber has a brilliant relationship as we support our members and the work that MOM does to champion and support the workforce here in Singapore. There were two amazing musical performances, and it was great to see Josephine Teo, Zaqy Mohamad, Poh-Koon Koh (Dr) and Siow Huang Gan. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Lastly, it was wonderful to meet Nicola Weir (Deloitte) who was in Singapore from South Korea and Kah Peng Aw from Shell.

We also had a successful EGM in support of consistent leadership of the Board, and a warm welcome to all of our new members too – I look forward to seeing you soon.
