#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 28 June 2024
I’m back in the UK for the most important event for UK business, here is my weekly #FridayFive for this week at the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham):
1. BCC Global Annual Conference – This week I was on a panel talking about UK exports to #Singapore and #APAC, and how we can support UK companies grow overseas and the infrastructure in place to make this happen. A brilliant opportunity to shout about the ASEAN market and the #CPTPP (a question which was also put to Kemi Badenoch on the main stage). As a board member of the British Chambers of Commerce, I could not have been more impressed at what Shevaun, Jenny, Anne-Marie (and Chair Sarah Howard MBE) and the ENTIRE executive team have delivered – an incredible, “do not miss next year” event for #British business, with a global flavour. It was also great to get insights from both Kemi Badenoch and Jonathan Reynolds on the run up to the General Election. 🇬🇧 🎙
2. Global CEO Connect – Lloyd's hosted a working day where the global CEOs of the British Chambers were able to connect, share best practice and support UK business both in the UK and overseas. Culminating in an evening reception at the UK House of Lords, opportunities to connect are hugely valuable and brilliant to share experiences and unite in supporting Global Britain. I absolutely loved catching up with my colleagues over the last two days including Sara Williams, Scott Knowles , Liz , Ian Fox, Peter, Bekim Kastrati, Bate C. Toms, Charlotte, Suzanne, Richard, Anita, Nick Patrick, John, Susan, James, Katy and many others who make the BCC network such a brilliant resource for GREAT British Business. 👨💼💎
3. Eden Hall Open House – the Chamber team supported the opening of Eden Hall once again, in celebration of the Birthday of His Majesty King Charles III for a truly brilliant community event. Thanks to my team for volunteering their time to support the community. 🏛 🤝
4. #Engineering Institutions – Lucy helped to bring Dulwich College (Singapore) students to continue Events and Training at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) push to link engineering institutions to the next generation, kindly hosted at the UK in Singapore in line with our Education and Learning theme. 👩🔬 ⚙
5. Friends of the #Energy & #Utilities Committee – our E&U committee hosted another networking reception, thanks to Tim and Paul O'Keefe – always a great event of networking and connecting, hosted at Aon #Singapore 🌏 🏭
Lucy also met with the Policy Chairman of the City of London, Chris Hayward, on Monday as we continue our dialogue and support, and on a personal note, I went to visit an old haunt I used to go to with my Dad (Still & Star in #Aldgate, London’s oldest slum pub), which has sadly gone. So many memories to flood back :)
That’s it for this week, and I’m away next week, so look forward to updating you in a few weeks time on what’s been going on. Until then, stay well, happy and connected, and see you soon!
