#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 5 April 2024

By David Kelly, Executive Director, British Chamber of Commerce Singapore

It has been what feels like a hugely busy few weeks. So much to choose from, but here are my #FridayFive from across the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore network.

  1. EDB and SGTech – This week our President Damian Adams and I met with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to talk about the post-Singapore budget and opportunities for collaborating around trade opportunities. We are planning to attend the APAC trade roadshow run by the Department for Business and Trade during the last few weeks of June. Damian, myself and Daisy Radford, Chair of our Technology Committee, also met with SGTech to discuss joint collaboration and opportunities as tech is a horizontal throughout the Chamber.
  2. New Members Briefing – every month, we host a New Members Briefing for new companies joining the chamber, new staff members joining companies who are currently members, or returning companies to our network. The session covers 1) the UK/Singapore relationship 2) The Chamber plans and activities, and 3) member benefits that companies can utilise as part of the network. In Q1, we have welcomed around 25 new company members, and this week we are pleased to welcome Cushman & Wakefield, RSM Singapore, Ethos BeathChapman and Duellix as members – welcome to all of our new companies supporting the UK in Singapore.
  3. GoNetZero Breakfast Meeting – we had a brilliant event with GoNetZero™ together with BSI discussing how organisations of all sizes can progress with their decarbonisation journey. The Chamber's Sustainability Report is also being worked on, so look out for this in the next few weeks or so.
  4. Planning Scotland to Singapore + trade services – we are working with the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce to host a delegation of Scottish companies coming to Singapore. This is absolutely the sort of global-Chamber activity as part of the British Chambers of Commerce that we should and will continue to support going forward.
  5. Sentiment Survey – we don’t know what we don’t know, so all of your feedback, particularly around business sentiment is key for us to continue to champion businesses in our networks. We are privileged to have excellent relations with Singapore ministries and stat boards, and your feedback is key to all of our dialogues that happen continuously throughout the year. Please do complete our business sentiment survey, the link is here.

That’s it for this week. If there is anything you need, please do reach out to me and the team.
