ACCA Moot Deliberates on the '4Cs' Impacting Asian Businesses

Singapore, 4 October 2023 - The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) hosted its Annual Conference today at PARKROYAL on Beach Road. This year’s conference, which saw the participation of close to 300 attendees, is the first physical session since 2019.

Themed "Conflicts | Climate | ChatGPT | Cost of Living: Challenges to the Asian 21st Century?", the one-day event brought together professionals, thought leaders, and experts to discuss the four main global factors influencing the Asia’s business environment today. The ACCA Annual Conference 2023 provided a platform for experts to share their views on how these challenges are impacting businesses in Asia, and what they can do to navigate them.

According to the Asian Development Bank, Asia is the world's fastest-growing region, with a projected GDP growth of 5.4% in 2023. At the same time, the region is also facing challenges, including conflicts, climate change, artificial intelligence (AI), and rising living costs.

The speakers at the conference delved into the topics of how accountants can play a pivotal role as leaders to help companies navigate geopolitical conflicts within the ASEAN region and climate challenges through a governance-centric approach. Other topics discussed at the conference included the need to formulate proper training and policies to guardrail the abuse of technologies like ChatGPT and AI, while ensuring its effective utilisation for business.

Pulkit Abrol, managing director of ACCA Asia Pacific, said, " After three years of virtual and hybrid versions of the Conference, we are delighted with the outcomes this year. This sold-out event gave us the perfect opportunity to bring to life, the biggest questions facing businesses right now, notably the importance of addressing the 4Cs. It’s also a testament to the growing call for transformative change lead by professional accountants at the heart of sustainable organisations in partnership with an organisation's board leaders and stakeholders, ACCA communities, fellows, members and future members within the region. The theme of this year’s conference reflects the purpose of ACCA “Accountants as a Force for Change and serving the Public Good.”

23, Singapore Ministry of Finance and the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority announced that the statutory board will set up the Accountancy Workforce Review Committee amidst a declining interest in the accountancy industry despite anticipation of significant increase in demand for professional accountancy skills in today’s business landscape.

The ACCA Annual Conference 2023 brought upon a positive sign that leaders in the accountancy industry remain committed to forge a resilient industry as the world continues to evolve. The engaging discussions that happened on-site reflected the profession's openness to collaborate, adapt and evolve to make it future-ready.

With the resounding success of this event, ACCA reaffirms its commitment to empowering professionals, businesses, and governments to navigate the complexities of today's interconnected world.

"We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our long-standing partners and sponsors as with their continued collaborative spirit, our ACCA Annual Conference 2023 was a resounding success. With our collective vision and commitment, the accounting landscape in Singapore will continue to work towards meeting the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.
