Over nine annual terms between 2001 and his retirement in 2013, Neil Montefiore served on the Board of the British Chamber, working with our management team and members in the goal of supporting the British business community here. He made a tremendous impact during his time as part of the Chamber family, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him will mourn his loss.
Our past Presidents remember Neil fondly:
Shanker Iyer OBE, President, 1998-2004:
“I was saddened to hear of Neil's sudden passing last week. Neil was one of the pioneers of Singapore's telco industry with M1, and he made a major impact in competing successfully with the national incumbent. Despite his high public profile and a very busy schedule, Neil made a major contribution in helping to develop the British Chamber during his time as a Board member. I will always remember Neil's warmth and generosity and his willingness to help in any way when called upon.”
Terry O’Connor OBE, President, 2006-2010:
“I had the pleasure of working with Neil in various ways over a decade as BritCham colleagues, as a key part of our Board during my Presidency, as a business partner to Courts, and when we both spent time together as Olympic torchbearers in Torino as he passed the flame to me. The flame in Neil was undoubtedly, however, his family, and for all his corporate achievements, his love and support for his family was his standout feature. He'll be sorely missed by so many.”
Steve Puckett OBE, President, 2010-2013:
“Neil had a stature that bridged the Singapore and British business communities so well. His support for the Chamber and my Board was outstanding. He was also a character of adventure, surviving the tsunami while out in the water at Phi Phi Island off Phuket. Sympathies at this time of untimely loss are with his close and loving family.”
Mr. Montefiore's obituary has been published today by The Straits Times.
