Coventry University Group makes impressive leap in Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024

Coventry University Group has made a significant leap in a prestigious league table of the world’s young universities – moving from a rank in the banding of 251-300 in 2023 to joint 165th in 2024.
Listing the world’s best universities 50 years old or younger, the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings is based on 18 performance indicators grouped into five areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry.
Weightings are recalibrated to reflect the profile of missions of young universities. The rankings include institutions that were founded between 1974 and the present.
Coventry University Group ranked joint 165th with an overall score of 44.3. International Outlook was the highest-performing category with a score of 95.6, followed by Research Quality with 73.
International Outlook is described in the methodology as “the ability of a university to attract undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty from all over the planet” which is key to its success on the world stage.

Yesterday (14 May) also saw two subjects taught by Coventry University Group ranked in the top 10 across all UK institutions in the Complete University Guide 2025. Health Studies moved up one spot to sixth and Paramedic Science also moved up one spot to 10th.
The Group also had four additional subjects in the top 20: Nursing and Midwifery (up two places to 16th); Information Technology and Systems (remained 17th); Counselling, Psychotherapy and Occupational Therapy (up two places to 17th); and Building (up two places to 17th).
The Complete University Guide 2025 also ranked the university group’s Student Satisfaction at joint 17th in the UK, moving up three places, while Student Staff Ratio and Academic Services Spend came in the top 10 for Modern Universities at joint fourth and eighth respectively.
Last year Coventry University Group, which comprises of Coventry University, Coventry University London, CU Coventry, CU London, CU Scarborough and the National Institute of Teaching and Education, received an overall Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in recognition of its “outstanding student experience and student outcomes”.
TEF is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) that aims to encourage higher education providers to improve and deliver excellence in the areas that students care about the most: teaching, learning and achieving positive outcomes from their studies.
In the most recent Research Excellence Framework power rankings by THE, Coventry University Group moved up 22 places to 58th in the UK and the percentage of the university’s research classed as world leading or internationally excellent increased to 70%.
Coventry University was also honoured with one of the last awards ever approved by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II before her death, in the form of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise for its tireless work building relationships with institutions and companies throughout the world, while also drawing thousands of students from around the globe to its campuses across the UK.
