Tanglin Trust School celebrated a significant milestone on 20 August 2025 with the official opening of its new Junior Arts Centre (JAC). Head of Junior School, Clair Harrington-Wilcox, shares her insights on this exciting development.

On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, Tanglin Trust School proudly celebrated the official opening of its new Junior Arts Centre (JAC) - a purpose-built hub designed to ignite creativity and provide world-class facilities for music, art, drama, dance, athletic development, and storytelling. This remarkable space reflects Tanglin’s commitment to nurturing the whole child and fostering artistic excellence.

The afternoon began with a warm welcome from CEO Craig Considine, followed by Guest of Honour Lena Ching, Deputy Associate Dean for the School of Music at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), who shared her personal journey in the arts before officially launching the centre with a ceremonial striking of the gong.

Guests included Governors, Senior Leadership, CEOs, and Heads of international schools in Singapore, parents, Foundation members, class representatives and volunteers, alumni, and interns.

The celebration continued with a moving performance by the Junior Chamber Choir and guided tours led by the Junior School Leadership Team and Heads of Year. Guests explored the Athletic Development Gym, music studios, drama and dance studios, art workshops, Story House, and the expansive Junior Library. Each space came alive with student-led demonstrations, from ballet and drumming to poetry readings and painting sessions, while Heads of Departments explained how these spaces would enrich learning. These interactive showcases highlighted the extraordinary opportunities now available to Tanglin students.

The event concluded with a stunning neoclassical ballet performance, Two Is One, danced by Sabril Amin and Yu Xin Tan from NAFA in the Black Box Theatre. In his closing remarks, Chairman of the Board, Dominic Nixon, praised the Centre’s transformation and highlighted the importance of creativity, collaboration, and confidence in young learners.

Guests then gathered for refreshments accompanied by live solo performances, offering a fitting finale to a memorable launch. Many guests were deeply impressed by the facilities, expressing admiration and inspiration. One parent shared: “It’s a great validation to see that our children will be able to use such an amazing space every day. The Junior Arts Centre really shows Tanglin’s commitment to giving students the very best opportunities to grow creatively.”

The Junior Arts Centre is a vibrant, inspiring environment where every child can discover their voice, unlock their talents, and flourish through the arts. Over the coming year, we look forward to sharing more stories of creativity and opportunity from this remarkable new home for the arts.
